This exam will make you more confident about dealing with the science you meet in everyday life, e.g. on the radio TV, newspapers and the Internet. It will help you make sense of the world around you.

What Do I Need Join?

You will be asked to take a test to establish the level you are working at.

Area Of Study:

How our genes make us unique. Air pollution; the earth and the universe. How we keep healthy and fight disease. Different kinds of materials we use to make everyday products. Radiation and its uses for devices such as mobile phones. How life on earth began and is evolving. Farming methods and natural and artificial chemicals in food and radioactivity

Assessment:

You will be assessed by 3 question papers each including a topic in biology chemistry and physics - the can be taken in January or June and there is a terminal exam at the end of the course. Coursework is a personal report on a topical issue and written up of a scientific experiment. - This is marked by the teacher and moderated by OCA and is worth 1/3 of the GCSE

Weekly commitment:

You will receive 3 hours supportive teaching and will need to do a further 2 hours work at home per week.

This is an intensive course and a minimum 80% attendance level vital.
